Boutique Beach Tournament, Hawkes Bay
Annual, usually in mid-to-late February
Hawkes Bay's own Beach Ultimate hat tournament is played annually at Waipatiki Beach, 20kms, or 30 minutes, north of Napier, on the east coast of the North Island.
Hawkes Bay is a beautiful part of New Zealand, with an excellent climate. The city of Napier was mostly destroyed by a major earthquake in 1931, but the comprehensive reconstruction program implemented immediately after has made the city renowned world-wide as an excellent example of art-deco architecture. It is a major horticultural, agricultural and viticultural area, with wines trails and several excellent beaches in the region.
The tournament party always earns exceptionally good reports; and this
area is a premium wine-growing area!
Unfortunately, club numbers have dwindled in Hawkes Bay, so the tournament may not be annual at present.
